Dr Karen Dos Reis
Founder & CEO
Dr Karen Dos Reis has 25 years’ experience in the field of education and is passionate about empowering the youth of South Africa.
She started her career as a high school teacher in 1996, teaching Business Education in the Further Education and Training Band (Grade 10, 11 and 12). In 2006, she obtained a scholarship to complete her Magister in Education degree and subsequently also obtained a position as lecturer in a Faculty of Education. Since the completion of her doctoral degree in 2013, she initiated a service-learning project which was motivated by the findings and recommendations of her doctoral thesis. In addition to this, she implemented a peer mentoring programme in 2014 that aligned with the service-learning project she initiated in 2012.
Dr Karen Dos Reis also presented research papers at national and international in the field of business education since 2008. At national level, she serves as a parttime research consultant for Umulasi.
Dr Nelis Vermeulen
Nelis Vermeulen has 40 years’ experience in mathematics education, 15 years as a high school mathematics teacher and HOD, and 25 years as a university lecturer and researcher, training mathematics teachers.
Additionally, he has been extensively involved in developing a range of hard copy and online mathematics and mathematical literacy teaching and learning material, including three textbook series, for two of which he was the coordinating author.
Nelis retired during 2019 from Cape Peninsula University of Technology as Associate Professor in Mathematics Education. He remains active in the field of teaching and learning in mathematics.
Cadine Webb has been a Mathematical Literacy and Mathematics teacher at a Cape Town high school for the past 10 years, after graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
Cadine is a firm believer in lifelong learning and avidly practises this philosophy herself. She is passionate about her subject and learners, and believes that everyone has a mathematician deep inside, just waiting to come out. She trusts that “once one learns to speak the math language, one’s inner mathematician is finally set free.”
Karin Fourie has been actively involved in education since 1988. She is an experienced teacher of both English and Afrikaans Home and Additional Language. Her experience includes leading a team of dedicated English teachers as subject-head and marking the NSC English FAL Paper 1 since 2008. She has also authored Grade 10, 11 and 12 English CAPS study guides for Intec College.
Karin is passionate about languages. Empowering her students to read, speak and write nothing but the most beautiful Afrikaans and English makes her happy. She is also fluent in German.
She is currently the English Subject Advisor, Grade 8 – 12, for the West Coast Education District.
